The first DNSBL was known as RBL, and sometimes people refer to “RBLs” while talking about spam blocking. However, some lists might work better than the others which make some list maintainers more respectable and trustworthy than others. There are many such lists available over the internet, and each one has been compiled with different criteria.

That server would be blacklisted, and all the messages sent from it would be either flagged or rejected by all the websites using a particular blacklist. As the name clearly gives an idea, these lists are made on the basis of the Internet’s Domain Name System, which translates complicated, numerical IP addresses into domain names, making the lists easier to be read, used and searched.īased on IP addresses, these blacklists contain IPs, generally of e-mail servers that a blacklist maintainer might have received spam of some kind from in the past. Some people like to call them blacklists while others prefer block lists.

DNSBL’s or DNS Blacklists also known as Domain Name System Blacklists, are blocking lists of spam or unsolicited messages that allow a web owner to block all the messages, having a history of transmitting spam.
